Gold, silver, niello and precious stones form the vocabulary of Mariani’s private landscape.
Black surfaces open unexpectedly to flashes of gold; flowers, leaves, paths and fragments emerge from compositions suspended between the natural and the imagined. Rather than depicting a garden literally, Mariani constructs a personal territory in which matter becomes a vehicle for memory, emotion and
transformation.

The resulting works are built upon a constant tension: between black and gold, shadow and light, fragility and strength, presence and absence. Preciousness is never merely displayed. It is hidden, fragmented and rediscovered, allowing the material itself to become part of the emotional content of the work.
